Summary

Ben McBride’s research interests center around modern and contemporary art and visual culture with particular emphasis on the history of photography. He is interested in the interpretative issues imposed by technology, and he attempts to navigate through these layers of mediation to explore matters of representation. These interests have led him to investigate diverse topics such as the dissemination of photographic portraiture out of Africa in the twentieth century and the role of the image-maker in the digital age.
