The Art of Buddhism

A survey of Buddhist visual arts (architecture, sculpture, and painting) of India, China, Japan, and Korea. Through an examination of the history of Buddhist art interpreted from visual, historical, social, and political perspectives, the course enables students to analyze a wide range of Buddhist art forms within their regional contexts. Students will also consider how Buddhist-related material functions within museums and engage with local collections. Cross-Listed with EALC 385
