European Architecture 300-1300
Far from being a “dark age,” the medieval millennium (AD 300–1300) witnessed the transformation of the physical landscape of Western Europe by monuments whose scale and complexity first rivaled and then surpassed the legacy of antiquity. This course investigates how and why, through study of a selection of monasteries, churches, mosques, synagogues, city walls, bridges, castles, markets, palaces, town halls, and city squares.
All are welcome; no prior experience with medieval studies or architecture is expected.
