Course Description
An introduction to the history of photography. We will consider strategies used over its history to make photography an art, a witness to truth, a record of fact, a purveyor of falsehoods, a mass medium, a hawker of goods and ideologies, an agent of political change, a means of remembrance, and more.
Major Distribution Requirements: cross-regional, post-1800
Prerequisite: HA 100, HA 151, or the equivalent, and consent of instructor.
