HA 788/990 Seminar

Students in the seminar will work closely with the manuscripts, maps, and illustrated books related to Japan, with a focus on the Spencer Research Library collection, and plan an exhibition. How did pictures serve to inform readers in ways that words cannot? We will be considering how knowledge was transmitted in printed form in and out of Asia, with a focus on Japan in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
