Biography —
Eli Troen is an MA candidate in the History of Art Department at the University of Kansas. His research centers on modern Japanese art, with a focus on avant-garde movements, ritual practice, and national myth building. With background in performance studies, he aims to explore how modern and contemporary Japanese artists reinforce and deconstruct conceptions of tradition and modernity through physically-engaged practice. Eli currently works at the Spencer Museum of Art as a Graduate Intern for Global Indigenous Art and Lifeways.
