Biography

Yayoi Shinoda’s research interest in visual culture ranges widely from medieval to early modern Japan. Pictorial representations of tales, legends, and the lives of different social groups, as well as the production and viewership of paintings and prints, are of her particular interest. She is also attentive to the illustration of other medias within paintings and prints, including lacquer, ceramics, and textiles. Through her curatorial experience at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, she has developed an interest in how Japanese Art is displayed and collected in the United States.
