Biography —
Yuan-Hsi Chao comes to KU with a background in History and Education. His primary research interest is Chinese painting in the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly the court art production and collection before the Opium War. Yuan-Hsi is specifically interested in the transition of the driving force of artistic production from the imperial palace to the local level in 19th-century China. Additionally, he is interested in painting and prints in Japan between the 17th and early 20th centuries and Japanese cultural heritages in Taiwan.
