Engaging with the Anthropocene thesis and alarmed by the unfolding ecological crises on our planetary home, this lecture presents three ecocritical approaches to the study of landscape. The first considers the role of landscapes in domesticating and aestheticizing wilderness. The second delves into the visual rhetoric when contemporary artists riff on canonical landscapes of pre-modern times. The last attempts a planetary perspective, which sees Earth as a vital, creative force and embraces an unruly art history.
