Japanese Prints
This course explores the history of Japanese prints with special emphasis on ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) woodblock prints made during the Edo Period (early 17th to 19th century). The course is organized thematically as well as chronologically and examines woodblock prints by focusing on both design and socio-political history. The course is taught at the 300 and 500-levels with additional work required at the 500-level
