Art of the Qing Dynasty
The Qing dynasty (1644-1911) was a complex period of multiethnicities and international relations, with art in all media produced by court artists, urban professionals, educated elite men and women, and Buddhist and Daoist monks. Scholarship on this period has also burgeoned recently. The seminar will read and discuss current literature on the arts of this period, and students will research and present on selected works of art. Research artworks can be from Japan or Korea in this time period. No CJK language requirement for 789-level enrollment.
