Miranda Wigton-Torres

Miranda Wigton-Torres received their bachelor’s degree in East Asian Languages and Studies with a focus in Korean language from the University of Kansas, whilst minoring in East Asian art history. This knowledge acts as a foundation for their studies in East Asian art history, as they investigate how both religion and the lives of minority groups effect visual culture. Their primary focus lies in studying women’s bodies and LGBTQ+ peoples in both historical and contemporary artworks within Korea and China. They also have an interest in Buddhist art throughout East Asia, particularly in the various forms of Guanyin due to the 12thcentury change to the Bodhisattva’s gender presentation.
