The history of Chinese art interpreted from visual, historical, social, religious, and political perspectives. Representative topics: archaeological discoveries, Buddhist images and architecture, gender relationships expressed through art, interactions between different ethnic groups, and the roots of modernism in Chinese art. Art history goals: direct engagement with museum collections and enhanced ability to analyze, write about, and talk about art.
